The community is invited to help “Send Off” and “Welcome Home” the Gillespie County Community Honor Flight, which is sponsored through Honor Flight Austin.  The Veterans will be departing by bus to the Austin Bergstrom Airport.  The Send Off will be on Friday, September 30, at 8:00 am at the American Legion Post 244 located at 726 S. Washington St. in Fredericksburg.  The Veterans will be checked in by 7:30 am and will be available to speak to the community. The “Welcome Home” will be on Saturday, October 1, at 9:00 pm also at the American Legion Post 244.
The Honor Flight Austin mission is to transport veterans with a specific priority given to those residing within 14 counties listed below, to Washington, D.C. to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their service and sacrifices and return them home to their families and loved ones.   Top priority is given to America’s most senior heroes — survivors of World War II.   The trips are provided at NO COST to the Veteran and spouses are not allowed to go on the trip.
