The ACWA Championship Cook Off will be held at the Gillespie County Fairgrounds and will include 15 to 20 pre-qualified chuck wagon teams that have won in previous competitions across the United States. The Cook Off will begin on Thursday, March 30, 2017 with a local education day including educational demonstrations by chuck wagon teams for area 4th grade students. The event will continue on Friday, March 31, 2017, as the chuck wagon teams are judged on time period authenticity for the trail drive era (1866-1886). On Friday afternoon, the event will host a youth cook off with local youth teams, who will be cooking on the authentic chuck wagons and supervised by the official ACWA Championship Cook Off teams. The event will conclude on Saturday, April 1, 2017 with a chuck wagon meal at 12:15 pm and the ACWA Championship Cook Off food competition that will be judged by a panel of food writers, journalists and local officials.

The event is open to the public and spectators are welcome. Visitors may purchase lunch tickets for Saturday’s meal prepared by competing chuck wagons, which will include a chicken fried steak, potatoes, beans, bread and dessert. Tickets are now on sale at the ACWA website http://www.americanchuckwagon.org Tickets are $20 per person (plus drinks). Tickets are first come first serve and are limited in quantity. The event will take place rain or shine.
